Description
Tsisdu Plays (Tommy Tsisdu) is hand-carved from Carrera marble. Rabbit looms larger than life in Cherokee traditions. He is the wily trickster, relying upon deception to win contests or to get others to do his chores for him. Most often, he falls victim to his own schemes and, in so doing, teaches the value of honesty. In this piece, Tsisdu takes a break from his shenanigans to dance and play.

About the Artist
I am a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a native to rural northeastern Oklahoma. My artistic journey began late in life, after I finally retired and returned home to care for my aging parents. My return to Oklahoma awakened long-suppressed passions and encouraged me to reembrace my Oklahoma roots and Cherokee heritage. Through my art, I seek to explore the secret, hidden places which the fantasist in me has always known lie just beyond the horizon. In these forgotten spaces, I know the spirits of my ancestors and the little people still tussle with the old-world fey folk brought to our shores on European ships. Along this journey, I have embraced a passion for shaping stone. I especially love unearthing the deep, rich colors buried within each piece. Working the stone is healing. I become absorbed in the motions and stress melts away. I also love that my workspace is under the open sky so that throughout the shaping process, each piece may also absorb the darkness and moonlight.
