Description

Shot on 35 millimeter film and printed by hand in the darkroom on silver gelatin paper with a white border, this piece depicts ᎫᏬᎯ (Kuwohi), a mountain in the Smoky Mountains near Cherokee, North Carolina, in the ancestral homelands of the Cherokee people. Thread in shades of Cherokee copper is stitched across the ridgelines, tracing the land and adding warmth and contrast to the monochrome image. The thread acts as both mark and memory, connecting landscape and lineage. Without color, the photograph emphasizes texture and shadow while inviting reflection on what is carried and remembered. Edition of 1.
