About the Artist
I've lived most of my adult life in the San Diego area. My father was in the Navy for 20 years, so we moved around a lot while I was growing up. I am happily married to my husband and have two children. We moved to Tahlequah, OK, in 2011, after my husband retired. My grandfather, Denison S. Nelson, was on the Dawes roll. He died when my dad was 2 years old. He was raised by his white mother in Arkansas. There were no Cherokee Princess stories while I was growing up. I started searching after my father passed away in 1997. I've taken Cherokee Nation Living Treasure basket-weaving classes from Bessie Russell and her daughter, Vicki Coppedge. I enjoy working with my hands.
