About the Artist
Cindy Layfield is an Oklahoma native and currently resides in Collinsville, Ok. She is a self-taught watercolor artist who has chosen Native American, typically, Cherokee images to bring to her art. She is of Cherokee descent and remembers her grandmother telling stories of their ancestors walking the Trail of Tears. She started teaching herself watercolors about 5 years ago. Working in watercolor has been rewarding, as it is a very hard medium to learn. Being able to control the paint and water. Cindy brings forth a blending of color and texture to portray her interpretation of her Cherokee ancestors and Oklahoma landscapes. Cindy has won numerous blue ribbons for several of her watercolor paintings. She also won Best of Show 2022 and Fine Arts Sweepstakes 2023 in the Rogers County fair. By remembering stories handed down from her Cherokee grandmother, she will be able to pass the stories down through her art. When not painting, Cindy enjoys traveling through Oklahoma looking for more inspiration by visiting many of the five civilized tribes historical sites, and many beautiful Oklahoma landscapes.
