About the Artist
My name is Phyllis Sixkiller. I am a full-blood Cherokee and speak my language fluently. I have been learning about my culture and art, and through this, I learned how to make clay bead necklaces. The clay beads are hand rolled, dried for two days, and put in an open fire in tin cans with pine needles for eight hours. The pine needles give them their dark color. I find peace mentally and physically when I am creating the necklaces.
