About the Artist
Lydia Mae Vann was born in August 1986 to Cecil and Sherrie Vann in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. She attended Oaks Mission Schools before earning her bachelor's degree from Northeastern State University. In July 2023, Lydia attended a basketry class taught by Lena Stick, Cherokee National Treasure, and fell in love with basket weaving. She also attended a class taught by Anna Sixkiller, Cherokee National Treasure, in May 2024. Lydia has made over 200 baskets, gifting them to family and friends and entering a few in art shows. She enjoys experimenting with color combinations, various weaving materials and patterns, and varying reed sizes.
