About the Artist
Laney Cully is a 25-year-old artist and basketmaker currently residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She grew up in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, as a member of the Cherokee Nation and learned the art of basketry from her grandmother, Thelma Forrest. In 2023, Laney graduated from Northeastern State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art and anthropology. Now in Santa Fe, she is pursuing a BFA in museum studies at the Institute of American Indian Art.
