About the Artist
Amy Deer works with seed beads and porcupine quills in contemporary Native American art and jewelry. She is an enrolled member of the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska and also Sicangu Lakota. She enjoys arts, crafting and looking to improve current techniques and willing to learn new skills. She began her beading journey with her grandmother and her mother, who first introduced her to beading at around 8 years old. She has progressed over the years on her own and learned from others within her community. Contemporary beadwork is mostly created and sometimes traditional designs are brought into the work.
