Learn the foundational techniques of hand-building pottery in this beginner-friendly class with Cherokee instructor Tama Roberts. Participants will explore rolling coils, joining techniques, adding texture and surface design, and the basics of drying and firing. Roberts will educate students on both traditional Cherokee pottery methods and contemporary approaches. All needed materials will be provided.

Class to be held at the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center at 953 E. Illinois Ave. in Vinita, OK 74301 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
No reservations will be taken after 4 p.m. CDT the day before the class.
Cancellations must be given no later than 24 hours before the class.
You are encouraged to bring your own snacks and lunch.
Participant age restricted to 18+.
About the Instructor: Tama Roberts works primarily in ceramics, sculpture, photography, and gourd pyrography. She strives to show representation of her Cherokee heritage, as well as an emotional connection to the earth, through each piece of original art. She has received numerous awards for her pottery over her career, including a first-place ribbon at the 102nd annual Santa Fe Indian Market last summer. Through her teaching, she is dedicated to sharing both traditional and contemporary Cherokee pottery methods to ensure the continuation of Cherokee pottery-making traditions and cultural practices.
