The corn bead represents the tears that the Cherokee cried along the trail of tears.
According to legend, wherever a tear fell on the ground a corn stalk-like plant sprouted and the seeds were in the shape of tears. They are a grey color that represents the sorrow the Cherokee felt on the Trail.
