This composition is a non-objective illustration of the emotion when winter is finally over and spring and summer are coming. I utilize mark-making that emulates beadwork, basketry or stitching to create pattern and texture in my work. This references both Native American historical arts, as well as the relationship to, and value of, materials and crafted goods in my family and communities.
Saturated colors and exciting shapes emphasize joy, while I used a watercolor base on hot-press watercolor paper, then built up and added detail with gouache.
Materials: Gouache and watercolor on paper.
