Cherokee people and other Indigenous people often call the land we live on Turtle Island. This painting depicts the Earth as a turtle that is held aloft by a Cherokee warrior. He is on bended knee from the weight of the world against a backdrop of galactic stars. The warrior persists on keeping Turtle Island held high despite all the hardships our ancestors faced and the challenges we continue to face as Cherokee people.
