Description
More than he can chew(Heron snags a hatchling)Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas24 in. x 30 in.I am a storyteller at heart and love telling stories visually, much like the silent film actors who used only what you could see to tell their tale. I like to imagine scenarios that will coax the viewer to create their own stories from the clues presented in the paintings. In this piece, I imagined what might happen if a stalking heron snags a newborn Uktena hatchling. What would that look like? This painting is the beginning. What story do you see?

About the Artist
Jerry Sutton is a Cherokee painter, photographer and flute maker who views the evolving cultural history, the endangered natural heritage, and the continuing arts, traditions and language of the Cherokee people through a contemporary lens. His examination of the Cherokee woodlands, wildlife, culture and people ranges from detailed representational imagery to colorful abstract expressionism.
