About the Artist
Tonia Hogner-Weavel is currently employed with the Cherokee Nation Language Department as a cultural specialist. Hogner-Weavel has more than 30 years of experience sharing Cherokee culture through lectures, workshops and classes, in-person and virtually, with local communities, corporate diversity groups and international guests. An award-winning textile artist, she was granted the distinction of Cherokee National Treasure in 2012 in textiles, an award given to citizens who preserve and perpetuate the culture through art. She was awarded the Moscelyne Larkin Cultural Achievement Award by the Greater Tulsa Area Indian Affairs Commission in 2019.
